Starting Iomega Quik Sync 2 for the first time

Mac®

To open Iomega Quik Sync 2 software, click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen, select Control Panels, and select Iomega Quik Sync 2. Alternatively, you can open it by clicking on the Iomega Quik Sync 2 icon in the Control Strip and selecting Open Control Panel.

PC

To open Iomega Quik Sync 2 software, click on the Start button, select Programs, point to Iomega Quik Sync 2, and click on the Quik Sync 2 icon. Alternatively, you can open it by double-clicking on the Iomega Quik Sync 2 icon that is located in the system tray in the taskbar.

When you run Iomega Quik Sync 2 for the first time, the Quik Sync 2 Setup screen appears. It will allow you customize many of Iomega Quik Sync 2's abilities to your specifications. The following is a step-by-step explanation of the screens you will see.


Screen 1:

Here you will see a short description of Iomega Quik Sync 2. Click the right arrow on a Mac® or "Next" on a PC to continue to the next screen.

Screen 2:

This screen is a reminder to label the disk that you would like to use as your Iomega Quik Sync 2 backup disk and insert it into your Iomega drive.

Screen 3:

On this screen you tell Iomega Quik Sync 2 software which Iomega drive you will be using for your backups. Make sure that you have your Iomega Quik Sync 2 backup disk inserted when you select a drive.

Screen 4:

Here you tell Iomega Quik Sync 2 which folders to look at when making backups of your files. Use the add/remove button(s) to customize your source folder selections. When you add or remove folders, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will present you with a dialog box to let you choose folders from your hard drive or network volumes.

CAUTION! If you want to use Iomega Quik Sync 2 on a Macintosh to back up a network folder(s), make sure that your Macintosh is the only computer using Iomega Quik Sync 2 to back up your selected network folder(s).

NOTE: If, after clicking "Next," you have any folders on your Iomega Quik Sync 2 disk without a matching folder on your hard drive, a window will appear after this screen so that you can tell Iomega Quik Sync 2 what to do about it. You will then see another screen to let you confirm your choices.

Screen 5:

On this screen, you decide if you want Iomega Quik Sync 2 to save revisions of your files. The number specified on this screen determines how many revisions are saved for each file. You may keep up to 99 revisions.

IMPORTANT: Revisions are only saved on the Iomega Quik Sync 2 disk. Iomega Quik Sync 2 will not keep revisions on your hard drive.

It's important to understand how your files will be numbered when revisions are turned on. For example, if you have the number of revisions set to 5 and you save a file called My Document.doc to your hard drive, your files will be numbered My Document (1).doc, My Document (2).doc, My Document (3).doc, etc. When the revision numbering reaches your predetermined maximum, in this case 5, only that number of revisions will be kept. Earlier revisions will be discarded. In this example, when My Document (6).doc is saved, My Document (1).doc will be deleted from the Iomega Quik Sync 2 disk.

This is a confirmation screen of your selections. If you need to make changes, click the back button until you get to the screen you need.

Screen 7:

You have now finished your initial configuration of the Iomega Quik Sync 2 software. If you would like to make additional changes to the Iomega Quik Sync 2 settings, this screen shows you how to access Quik Sync 2 after this initial backup.

After you click the right arrow or next as appropriate, Iomega Quik Sync 2 will begin to back up your selected folders.
